The new school year is upon us and in class we have already begun our new topic- What can we do with all our rubbish ? The children have spent time working in teams, making dens, rockets and cars by reusing cardboard boxes that were to be thrown away. We have also been working hard to learn all the new routines of our class, including lining up in register order and finding our learning spaces in the classroom. There is a lot to remember, but we are already becoming very independent learners!
In Year 2 the focus of group reading sessions will be to work on comprehension skills to deepen our understanding of a text. You can help your child with these skills when reading at home by asking questions about the books they are reading. These questions might include what surprised them about a story or what questions they have after finishing a text. It would be great if you could also support our learning by practising the two, three and five times table in any order and encouraging your child to use pre-cursive letter formation, which we call ‘starting on the line’.
