What a wonderful start to the year we have had! We have been working hard to learn all the new routines of our class, including lining up in register order and finding our learning spaces in the classroom. We have settled in well and are becoming very independent learners.
We have already begun our new topic- What can we do with all our rubbish? The children have spent time working in teams, making dens, rockets and cars by refusing cardboard boxes that were to be thrown away. In PE will be linking dance to our topic and creating movement to ‘Our World.’ We will also be taking part in Drumba sessions on a Thursday afternoon.
In Year 2 the focus of group reading sessions will be to work on comprehension skills to deepen our understanding of a text. You can help your child with these skills when reading at home by asking questions about the books they are reading. These questions might include what surprised them about a story or what questions they have after finishing a text. It would be great if you could also support our learning by practising the two, three and five times table in any order counting forwards and backwards in any order.
We will continue to develop the children’s pre-cursive handwriting this year and will begin teaching joins.
I am looking forward to an exciting year with our wonderful new Owl Class!
