Teaching aims and progression
Our children will develop knowledge about the world in which we live. As they move through school our children will begin to understand increasingly complex subject-specific vocabulary relating to human and physical geography and will develop an increasing range of map reading skills and field work to enhance their locational awareness. They will extend their knowledge and understanding beyond the local area to include the United Kingdom and then compare the UK with areas beyond Europe. They will also develop their ability to use an increasing range of geographical equipment effectively to build their knowledge of the wider world.
Aspirations for learners
Through our geography curriculum we seek to develop our children’s familiarity and responsibility for their locality but also for them all to be inquisitive about the wider world and to be motivated to find out about different areas, cultures and environmental issues. Through field work, looking at maps, atlases and stories we intend to prepare our children to study geography in Key stage 2 and beyond.
