Fox, Hedgehog & Badger Class
Hello Year 1!
This half term we have enjoyed learning about the importance of plants. We had a brilliant trip to the Old Barn at Farm Field where we learnt all about the different parts of a plant that we can eat and where our food comes from. We have found out about different types of trees and what helps plants to grow healthily.
Next half term our topic is called 'Who is the King of the Beasts?'. We will be finding out about different animals and how we can sort them into different groups including herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. We will be comparing our bodies with other animals and explore our senses. We will complete our study of the seasons by going on a Summer Walk and look at ways to stay safe in the sunshine.
In English we will be reading the story 'Where the Wild Things are' and rewriting our own version of a 'Portal Story' where a character enters an exciting fantasy land. We will also be writing our own non-chronological report of our own 'Wild Thing' character, using exciting vocabulary and adjectives to describe their attributes.
In Maths we will be learning to recognise and find a half and quarter of objects and amounts. We will also be learning to describe the position and direction of objects. We will be building upon our knowledge of place value by becoming familiar with numbers to 100 and be introduced to the concept of money. We will also be learning to order common events throughout the day and tell the time to the hour and half hour.
This year, we continue to have 2 sessions of PE each week. One of these will be an indoor session and one will be an outdoor session. You will need to come into school in your sports kit on your outdoor session PE day.
Outdoor PE days:
Fox- Monday
Hedgehog- Thursday
Badger- Friday
Have a lovely half term break. See you soon Year 1!
