Welcome to Badger Class.
We are super excited for September and our first topic is all about "What do you need to be a Superhero?" This is a Science and English focused topic and to launch it we are having a "Dress up as a superhero day" on Tuesday 10th September. Throughout the topic we will be learning about different materials and their properties and we will be completing lots of scientific experiments. As part of our learning we will also be looking at real life superheroes.
Alongside our topic we will also be completing daily phonics and number sessions. In English sessions we will be focusing on writing simple sentences, remembering finger spaces, full stops and capital letters. The children will read their school reading books to a member of staff once a week in school and will be reading books everyday in phonics. We are also very lucky as we will be having Drumba lessons in school on a Monday afternoon. Additionally, we will have weekly PE sessions and PE bags will need to be in school all the time. P.E kits should contain a plain white t-shirt, dark shorts and plimsolls/trainers (preferably with velcro fastening).
Parent helpers are also very welcome and if you would like to come in and help in the class then please let a member of the year 1 team know.
This year, due to limited space in the cloakrooms, we would politely request that children just bring their reading folders and water bottles. If you need to send in anything other than these items (i.e a backpack for gloves, hats etc) please be mindful of the size. Many thanks.
We are looking forward to another exciting year and wish you all a lovely summer.
If you have any questions or concerns then please do not hesitate to contact us.
