Welcome to Owls!
We are looking forward to an exciting first half term! Our first topic is ‘What can we do with all our rubbish?’ We will be learning about everyday materials and how we can reduce, reuse, recycle our rubbish.
As part of our topic launch we will be using recycled materials to make dens, rockets, cars, houses or whatever the children can imagine! Please collect recycled materials for us over the summer to use during our topic.
In PE will be linking dance to our topic and creating movement to ‘Our World.’
We will be working hard to learn all the new routines of our class, including lining up in register order and finding our learning spaces in the classroom. In Year 2 we have a big focus on becoming very independent learners.
In Year 2 the focus of whole class reading sessions will be to work on comprehension skills to deepen our understanding of a text. You can help your child with these skills when reading at home by asking questions about the books they are reading. These questions might include what surprised them about a story or what questions they have after finishing a text.
It would be great if you could also support our learning by practising the two, three, five and ten times table in any order counting forwards and backwards.
We will also continue to develop the children’s pre-cursive handwriting this year.
Have a fantastic, fun summer and I look forward to seeing you all again in September.
