Key Stage 1
Welcome back, everyone!
This half term in Key Stage One, our History learning will be full of curiosity and discovery. Our topic, “What do explorers need?”, will encourage children to think about bravery, preparation and teamwork. We will compare the adventures of Matthew Henson and Christopher Columbus, learning about who they were, where they travelled and the challenges they faced on their journeys.
Through stories, discussions and role play, the children will explore what explorers might need, such as maps, supplies, determination and courage. We will also talk about how exploration looks different today and how everyday adventures can help us learn new things. If you would like to practise the topic song please find it here- Columbus Day Lyric Video - The Kiboomers Preschool Songs & Nursery Rhymes for Holidays
To link learning at school with home, children will be invited to share any adventures they have outside of school, such as trips, walks or trying something new. Families will be able to upload photos or short descriptions to Seesaw, helping us celebrate every explorer’s journey—big or small.
Please stay connected with us throughout the term by checking SEESAW for updates, and celebrations of the wonderful things we’ll be doing.
