English Intent
At Radcliffe on Trent Infant and Nursery School we believe that English is an essential part of the curriculum. A subject that not only stands alone but one that should be an integral part of learning. We aim to give our pupils a high-quality English curriculum that will give them a strong foundation to speak, read and write fluently. We strive for children to be confident to express their ideas and communicate them effectively. We encourage children to articulate their thinking, be imaginative and to be successful. We want to immerse our children in stimuli to inspire them and provide our children with creative opportunities to develop and apply their reading and writing skills across the curriculum. We intend to build a culture where reading for pleasure is valued and children have a lifelong love of books. Children are taught to write in a legible script and write fluently. Spelling is taught in context and linked closely to the children’s phonic knowledge. It is intended to show pupils how to understand the relationship between phonemes, graphemes and notice patterns within words. We equip children with transferable skills which can be adapted to support them with all their learning across the curriculum.
