PE
Intent
At Radcliffe on Trent Infant and Nursery School we aim to promote and provide all our children with the opportunities to create lifelong positive relationships with physical activity. They are supported and encouraged to enhance their sporting experiences through an enriched PE curriculum and through extra-curricular clubs and activities. Our PE curriculum works in conjunction with the key principles and values embedded within our whole school curriculum and vision. We believe that physical education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is both vital and unique in its contribution to a pupil's physical and emotional development and health.
Implementation
Through following the Real PE scheme, our approach to teaching PE not only focuses on the development of the fundamental movement skills but also the holistic development of the child and their learning behaviours. PE is used as a vehicle to facilitate access to learning behaviours (personal, social, creative, cognitive, physical, health and fitness) that can be applied in all subjects rather than exclusively with the acquisition of motor skills and techniques. We encourage learners to reflect on and improve their learning behaviour skills within each Cog focus to encourage positive attitudes to learning across the whole curriculum.
Real PE is a child-centred approach that is transforming how we teach PE to include, challenge and support every child. It gives every child the physical literacy, emotional and thinking skills to achieve in PE, Sport and life. It is fully aligned to the National Curriculum and focuses on the development of agility, balance and coordination, healthy competition and cooperative learning through a creative approach to teaching and learning in PE.
