Robin Class
Welcome back to the summer term Robin Class. We can’t believe you are in your final term of being in Year 2.
In this topic we will look to answer the enquiry question ‘How do we care for plants?’ by learning what plants need to stay healthy. Children will have the opportunity to carry out their own investigations into what plants need to grow well and find out what happens to a plant when they don't get the things they need. They will closely compare the inside of a seed and bulb and learn about the life cycles of both. In their final lesson, children will learn how plants have adapted to live in different environments around the world.
In English we will be reading the book ‘Jack and the baked beanstalk’. Please do not pre read this with your child as we plan to reveal a bit at a time through our English sequence of teaching. The children will compare this version of the fairy tale with other versions and write their own version of the story. They will also learn about persuasive writing and the different sentence structures needed to write their own persuasive letters.
In Maths we will be learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. The children will learn to count the sides, vertices, faces and edges and use different categories to sort shapes between groups. They will learn about lines of symmetry and use these to draw incomplete shapes. Children will also apply their learning of halves and quarters to describing movement and turns of objects.
