Owl Class
Welcome to Owl Class.
We are so excited for our first half term. We hope you’ve all had a great summer and are looking forward to a new year in Owl Class.
This half term we are going to be busy finding out the answer to our enquiry question “What can we do with all of our rubbish?” We will be testing the properties of different man-made and natural materials and consider how we can change the way we use these materials to lessen the negative impact they can have on our lives.
To launch this topic, we will begin with an exciting project! We plan to reuse some of our old rubbish and create something marvellous and imaginative! We would appreciate it if you could bring in your clean, washed out recycling please. At the end of our topic, we will celebrate with a fabulous “Trashion Show” where the children will be showcasing what they can do with all of their rubbish.
In English we will be reading a wonderful book by Emily Gravett called ‘Tidy!’ Please don’t pre read this with your child as we plan to reveal a bit at a time through our English sequence of teaching. We will use this text to help us narrate our own stories, using a story structure and ambitious story language.
In Maths we will be learning about the place value of numbers to 100 and begin to use this knowledge to estimate the position of numbers on a number line. We will use our understanding of tens and ones to compare and order numbers and practice counting forwards and backwards in 2s, 5s and 10s.
