Punctuation & Grammar
Grammar is integrated within our English sequence of learning. We focus on recognising sentences, constructing sentences orally and writing sentences accurately. By the end of Reception, children are confident in writing simple sentences with correct letter formation and grammar, including finger spaces, full stops, capital letters, through daily dictated sentences. In KS1 they continue to develop these skills and learn how to organise and share their thoughts. We introduce different word types, adverbs, adjectives, time adverbials etc, through our English Key Texts. Teachers model using this knowledge through shared writing sessions and this is repeated extensively until our pupils are fluent competent transcribers leading to increased confidence and independent.
