Key Stage 1
Welcome back, everyone!
This term, our KS1 topic asks the big question: “Why are plants important?” To launch our learning, the children will enjoy an exciting trip to Old Barn Farm, where they will explore different types of plants, see how they grow, and discover why farmers depend on them. Back at school, the children will become farmers themselves by planting and caring for a variety of seeds in our school grounds. They will observe how plants change over time, learn what they need to survive, and find out how plants help people, animals, and the environment.
Throughout the term, the children will develop their scientific skills by investigating roots, stems, leaves, and flowers, and by asking questions about how plants grow. To finish, KS1 pupils will proudly share their knowledge with the Foundation Stage children through presentations, stories, and hands‑on planting activities. We can’t wait to see everyone’s learning blossom!
Our topic song for this half term is Roots, Stem, Leaves, Flower | Parts of a Plant Song | Parts of a Flower Song
Please stay connected with us throughout the term by checking SEESAW for updates, and celebrations of the wonderful things we’ll be doing.
